The Mayor's Youth Leadership Council is affectionately known as MYLC. Sure, we get a lot of cow jokes and cookie jokes, but at least people are talking about us.
The mission of MYLC is to promote youth activism. MYLC chapters are based at Stamford High School and Westhill High School, with each school addressing a different social issue. Stamford High explores the world of abuse and Westhill HIgh looks at a host of safe schools issues. Each promotes youth activism through grant making, public awareness activities and social change campaigns.
Each MYLC chapter is led by a five-person Executive Committee, which meets weekly during the school year. General member meetings are held every other week. Activities are held after school, in the evening and on weekends.
"MYLC is for you," said Kailey Stockenbojer, a graduate of MYLC, "if you are passionate about changing the world, or a small section of it known as Stamford."
