Land Use Bureau: Scalzi Park Skate Park Design |

|
City staff members have been working on the Scalzi Skatepark project since fall 2004. Skateboarders and inline skaters attended several design meetings between December 2004 and January 2006, and ultimately chose a cement skatepark featuring bowls. The City hired Grindline Skateparks in fall 2006. Thanks to the fact that many skaters and their parents showed up to public meetings this spring, the contract with Grindline was approved by the Board of Representatives on March 5, 2007. Grindline conducted back-to-back design meetings with skaters on March 7 & 8, 2007. The design posted here is the work of Micah Shapiro, Lead Designer for Grindline. During our last meeting, Micah had not quite finished working out the street section. As you can see, he added some wall ride and Jersey-barrier-type features. In general, he incorporated as many of the features and suggestions as he could from the skaters who attended the March meetings. The design is posted for your interest and admiration - the opportunity to comment and critique is over. Enjoy!
